If you are serious about improving your current physical condition then you will need to combine exercise and weight loss. Combining these two elements and sticking to a regimen of dieting and exercise can provide long term physical conditioning. You need to be dedicated to a program, and to yourself, in order to see serious results.

Naturally any combination of exercise and dieting that is done on a regular basis will provide an improvement in your physical condition. The idea is to consume less and burn more in order to lose weight. This concept works in theory and will work in realty to a certain degree; the fact is that you will need to know that there may be times when this combination does not seem to be working.

What you need to realize is that there is a correlation between exercise and weight loss. In order to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you consume, it really is that simple. But in order for it to be affective you need to get a control on your diet. Exercise will not do this alone. You can work out for 30 minutes three times a week, but if you do not watch what you eat then you will not see the best possible results.

Certainly any amount of exercise is better than none, and while you may not be seeing a connection between exercise and weight loss, you are improving your physical condition. Exercise is healthy for you regardless of whether it results in losing weight. Your blood pressure and your heart condition are directly affected by partaking in some form of exercise.

It is actually a good idea to get a handle on your daily diet and then beef up your exercise program. This does not mean that you shouldn’t start some type of exercise right away, but rather that you should work your way into it. You will actually need to ease your body and mind into a regular routine.

To get the best results out of exercise and weight loss you need to be able to undo all the bad habits that got you to the point you are now. This may include cutting out deserts or extra servings, it will also include reducing the amounts of saturated fats you consume. A program that gradually increases your activity and decreases your calorie intake and fat consumption will result in a noticeable correlation between exercise and weight loss.

There will be a point, while you are on Europlayers and suddenly you have a team interested and they are sending a contract to sign. What a great feeling. You finally get to travel and play ball in Spain, for example. You start deciding what to take and pack. The contract is on its way. SPAIN HERE I COME…
Well STOP and THINK FIRST. You will be an ambassador to any country you travel to but you must make sure you are protected through your contract and that it will be enforced. Your contract is what makes you different from every other player on the team. They pay to play, you get paid to play. So here is a check list of contract must haves to protect you, so you can have a good season and not have to worry about the linguistics of your contract. Everything should be in WRITING ALWAYS. ALL CONTRACT CHANGES SHOULD BE IN WRITING. Just protect yourself.
CONTRACT MUST HAVES
Team: TBD
VERY IMPORTANT MUST HAVES:
Contract period: TBD (one season or long term deal)
Salary: TBD Euros per month after taxes are paid.
Visa and work permit, health insurance, accommodations, round trip flights, wired or wireless internet, cell phone (prepaid phone must be paid for by team), travel to and from all team events(i.e. practice, games, team community events, etc)
Negotiable items in your contract:
I prefer a job in the town I play for. It helps with community work and team promotions. You look good not only playing/coaching for the team but the community views you as a more than just an American player/coach. If you are offered a job, ask if it is guaranteed or just talk? If it is guaranteed, make sure it is in your contract.
Meals paid for?
Vehicles?
Anything else you deem important to you.
If all your must haves are ACCEPTED, make sure your must haves are in your contract.
o Contract period/length
o Salary – ask the team if they have proof that they can pay you the money they are offering. Is it in an account that I can see? If you are worried, try this, first and last month’s salary upfront so you know you have been paid when it is time to leave. Just like renting an apartment. If you do not ask, how will you know? Various ways to make sure you get paid all your money. You can guarantee salary regardless what happens in the season it must be paid to you before you leave the country. Again, if you do not ask, how will you know?
o Visa and Work permit – the club must arrange that so get them so them to start ASAP!! Without a visa and work permit, you are working illegally.
o Health Insurance – ask the club how health insurance works in that country? Do you need an insurance card or just walk into a hospital, etc?
o Accommodations
o Round trip flights – to the team and return home include in your round trip flights all changes of flights paid by team.
o Wired or wireless internet connection – laptop connection so you can stay connected online. Download Skype or other messengers.
o Cell phone – shut your mobile phone off. You will thank me for this. Have the team offer you a prepaid phone and they pay for the service to keep you connected with them. Or you can check your mobile company for the international cell phone rates. Trust me that will be a high bill. If you want to call back home, get a MagicJack. Very cheap and affordable and your family and friends can call you through the computer just have a microphone available.
o Travel to/from practice – bus, vehicle, whatever means. You are there for a job and you have to get to practice and other events so make sure you have a way there. Make sure the team has this covered.
o Vehicles – everyone does not get this luxury but if you do be careful, the US laws and European laws do differ so make sure you understand them.
o Meals – If you get the salary you wanted and meals paid for, you have negotiated a decent contract. Salary and meals can go hand and hand. Higher salary, no meals or lower salary, 3 meals. It all depends on you. I prefer my meals being paid for but I would do it and take a lower salary. Trust me I eat a lot so the work here is NEGOTIATE.
o Your responsibilities as a player/coach or coach
o Team responsibilities
o Personal expectations you have of the team
o Team expectations you have of the team
o Ask about team management and the structure is it a corporation or a bunch of guys just playing ball? Is it a board or team makes the decisions?
MOST THINGS IN A CONTRACT ARE NEGOTIABLE. SOME ITEMS ARE NOT. THIS IS TO PROTECT YOU. Make sure you enforce your contract and/or make it known that they are breaking your contract.
Ask question to other players that have played or still playing overseas. We are all on Europlayers to continue our careers and make new friends on the way. Everyone will have a different experience playing overseas. Just ask any of the veterans and we will be honest. Trust me. Some experiences are funny and some are serious. Take it for what it is worth and make your decision from there.
If you need help, contact me on Europlayers or through my blog at www.6pointathletics.com. I will be glad to help you understand what to expect on journey overseas. If I do not know the answer, I probably know someone who does.

I dreamed an impossible dream. I remember like it was yesterday. I said, “Mama, I am going to play football on TV so you can be proud of me.” My mom said,” I am proud of you, you can do whatever you want if you put your mind to it.” Well, I guess that statement got the wheels rolling in my head.Well my plan started in grade school and the playground, flag football and pick up games in the schoolyard. I played everyday in the schoolyard and evening was flag football practice. I did not play my first organized contact football game until I reached my freshman year in high school. I played and I remember the last game of the year as I was crossing the middle of the field on a dig route and the ball went high and I went after it, BOOM. I flew into a helicopter. My helmet was twisted, ear pads were gone, shoulder pads were loosened and my head was ringing. I realized later that the free safety hit me as hard as he could and he was hurt as well.

I came down with the ball and was facing in the wrong direction before the catch. I got up and I remember walking to the wrong sideline and looking at the free safety laying on the field motionless. We both got up and wandered back to our benches. That was the day that football did not seem to important to me.
My sophomore year I played very sparsely and was going to quit my junior year and continue my track career which I was doing awesome. The Head Varsity Coach talked me back on the field and I was very leery about playing or basically in my mind getting head in such a way again. I did a drill over the summer that I did not want to but my coach said, it would help so I did and slant route after slant route into our starting linebacker did the job. One day after dropping about 15 passes I got tired of being hit and the next play I caught the slant route and hit our starting linebacker and ran him over. My coach was pleased and said again. I did it again and the linebacker got pissed and now the game was a part of me. It was not the passes I dropped or the catches I caught. It was the lesson of getting up again and repeating it over and over until I got the best result. I control who and what hits me and how hard I get hit. Thus begin my attitude in life as I failed in an area. I realized that I can do it just have to keep trying until I win at it. Perfect practice gets the result of perfect. I wanted to be the best.
Now, I was fortunate again to received a scholarship to a Division I college, the University of Wisconsin. I am a Badger for life and thus started my career as “Touchdown Tony” Simmons. I had a fabulous career in football and track in Wisconsin, I won multiple titles, championships made great friends, saw friends make it to the next level both professionally in track and football. We were the fortunate one. We beat the odds. So you want play in the NFL, huh? I was drafted in the 2nd round by the New England Patriots the 52nd pick overall. I was living a dream and I lived that dream for 5 season with the Patriots, Browns, Colts, Texans and Giants. I lived the dream of a little boy and beat the odds. But listen to the odds I beat is the most important.
According to the NCAA research, 8 out of 10,000 seniors playing high school football eventually make it to the NFL. That is a .0008% chance. That means that of the 300,000 seniors now playing high school football, only 240 of hem will eventually make the NFL. But if you work hard and are extremely good … they will find you.0.5% chance of a male making it to the NFL. 1/3 of players invited to the combine aren’t drafted.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service, the odds of being struck by lightning — in your lifetime — are 1 in 5,000. Read more: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_the_odds_of_being_struck_by_lightning#ixzz1DPa7GC6p
Each of the 32 NFL teams has a 53-man roster that includes active and inactive players for a total of 1,696 players. Read more: http://www.livestrong.com/article/15471-many-players-nfl/#ixzz1DPYDseRh
So you want to play in the NFL, huh. Well it is a numbers game and quite frankly the numbers are against you. I want everyone who reads this to understand the NFL is glamorous on the weekend but it is a lot persistence, commitment and time during the week. You can make it but understand the odds are against you so get that education so you have something to fall back on(so cliche) but it is the truth. I received my Master degree in Project Management in 2010, twelve years after my last year of college. That is part of the dream to finish college and keep reaching afterward. You can make the NFL but remember the odds and your attitude but if you want it bad enough and you are willing to put the persistence, commitment, and time. YOU CAN MAKE IT AND WILL.Happy Halloween!!
